EBYO Application INFORMATION
NEW STUDENTS
We’d love to have you join us for our 24-25 Season! Please fill out this online information form to be considered.
New Concert Orchestra members will be asked to submit a letter of recommendation or a video audition.
New Symphony Orchestra members will be asked to submit a video audition. The video auditions can be recorded in any format and the video or a link to the video can be emailed to the orchestra manager (manager@ebyo.org). Be sure to download the appropriate music piece for your instrument. (Music excerpts are at the bottom of this page for both Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra.)
RETURNING STUDENTS
All returning students that wish to advance to the Symphony orchestra or change their seating position within their current orchestra should sign up for a zoom video audition.
PLEASE use this form to sign up for a returners audition or interview slot TO BE HELD ON Friday 5/24.
The conductor would also like to meet with all returning students for a Zoom interview to discuss goals for the coming school year (no audition needed). You will receive your Zoom interview appointment confirmation by email.
All audition videos need to be received no later than May 31, 2024. If you are unable to submit an audition video by this date or schedule a Zoom interview by this date, special arrangements will need to be made by email with manager@ebyo.org.
All video auditions and Zoom Interviews will be concluded by May 31, 2024. Final audition results will be sent by email no later than 7/4/24.
While EBYO membership is generally for the complete school year, students who participate in school marching band or who just wish to join at a later date will still be able to audition or interview to join our programs in January or March. Once notify our manager, you will be contacted with further information regarding submitting an audition video or scheduling a Zoom interview.
CONCERT ORCHESTRA STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
The EBYO Concert Orchestra is an inclusive orchestra. Applicants for the Concert Orchestra only need their music teacher's recommendation in order to join the orchestra. The teacher recommendation should be sent in an email to the EBYO Business Manager (manager@ebyo.org). If a student prefers, a video recording from the list below is also acceptable, in lieu of a teacher recommendation.
Concert Orchestra Strings
Violins, Violas, Cellos: Ability to play major scales in G, D, A in two octaves;
Solid knowledge of first position with a beginning understanding of third position;
Beginning vibrato is welcomed but not required;
Bassists are expected to play one octave in the keys of F Major and D Major.
Concert Orchestra Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion
You will be required to play one scale of your choice (Concert orchestra only) and record the audition music for Concert (intermediate level) or Symphony (advanced level) orchestras listed below.

SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
First time applicants for the Symphony Orchestra will be required to play the audition music chosen by the conductor on the website (see below). Symphony Orchestra students do not need to perform scales in their audition video.

FEES
There is no audition fee for any of the EBYO groups. If you are accepted as a EBYO musician there is a tuition fee per student per group for the 2024-2025 season. A limited number of scholarships based on financial needs are available.
